Day 1  Zurich

My wife & I went for sightseeing holiday in a well-known scenic country, Switzerland. We were with a group who were on holiday specifically for belated honeymoon. We all met in London Heathrow Airport with our guide. We flew to Zurich, Switzerland. We were picked up from Zurich airport by coach reserved for our Switzerland trip.

Our first stop was Zurich rhine falls. We also had a boat ride. It was quite amazing & impressive; you are so close to the falls & able to enjoy the full power of it.

Next, we proceeded towards Zurich city centre and final stop being beautiful Lake Zurich. The lake is basically right in the city centre. It is quite large and you can walk on either bank. There are various green spaces, restaurants and other attractions along the way. It was a pleasure to enjoy sometime here. After having light refreshment, we got on to coach for dinner in an Indian restaurant. After dinner we all proceeded towards our hotel for well-earned rest.

Day 2  Geneva (1)

Second day a busy day, we visited three sites. After breakfast we all proceeded towards Geneva, a city in Switzerland surrounded by Alps and Jura mountains, headquarters of Europe’s United Nations and the Red Cross. It’s a global hub for diplomacy and banking. French influence is widespread, from language to gastronomy.

The broken chair is located in front of the United Nations building and serves as a symbol against landmines.

We did not visit inside of United Nations Building, but the outside and surrounding grounds are beautiful.

Lake Geneva is a crescent-shaped lake shared between France and Switzerland, and overlooked by the Alps. The place one shouldn’t miss in Geneva is the fountain which is a symbol of Geneva. It looks beautiful both at daytime and in the evening. Lots of swans around. Really impressive but don’t go too close otherwise you can get wet. The jet fires very high into the sky. Nice place to take a walk.

Day 2  Lausanne (2)

After Geneva our second stop was Lausanne. It is a city on Lake Geneva, in the French-speaking region. It’s home to the International Olympic Committee headquarters, as well as the Olympic Museum and lakeshore Olympic Park. It was really an amazing place to visit and explore anything about the Olympics sports. If you are a passionate for sport, you mustn’t miss it! It is a wonderful park, with wonderful statues and the museum is also nice. Loved all the sculptures outside the Museum. A lot of sports represented in the gardens as you enter the Museum. The joy of sport in a beautiful setting with great views. Lovely to walk through the park, admire the sculptures and see the Olympic flame. Later we departed for Bern.

Day 2  Bern (3)

Bern means bear, the capital city of Switzerland. It traces its origins back to the 12th century, with medieval architecture preserved in the old town. The old town of Bern is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Very interesting, exciting and well-preserved historic city. The old houses and streets are well kept and you can stroll through the street and do some shopping and enjoy some amazing views of the river, government building, cathedral, fountains, clock towers, etc at the same time. We stopped here on our way to Engelberg, the weather was poor, it was raining.

Day 2  Engelberg (4)

We arrived in the resort village, Engelberg in the evening from Bern. Engelberg is one of Switzerland’s leading ski resorts. We stayed here for two nights and three days. It was wonderful, neighbouring areas being, Jungfrau (top of Europe), Mount Titlis (ski resort) and Lucerne. First day we rested and charged energy for the exciting trips next day.

Day 3  Jungfraujoch (1)

In the morning after breakfast, we boarded the train to take us to Jungfraujoch, top of Europe. Absolutely breath-taking views of snowy mountains from the highest point in Europe. One can easily reach here by the cog wheel train without having to climb a tiny bit. The tour included visit to ice Palace, a really cool ice tunnel with sculptures. The train route is scenic and will make you love the mountains.

Day 3 Fall & Interlaken (2)

We started heading towards Interlaken, on the way we visited a fall. We climbed up the stairs to reach the highest point possible to see the origin of the fall. Negotiating stairs was not easy. The roaring sound of the fall was deafening & scary. We all got wet from water splash. After the fall the next stop was Interlaken. It is a spectacular place. Unfortunately, we stopped here only for a very short period so, we weren’t able to look around that much. It was a gloomy afternoon and to make matter worse it was also raining.

Day 4 Mount Titlis (1)

After breakfast we ascended 10,000ft to the summit of Mt. Titlis. On the first leg of journey, we took 8-seater cable car from Engelberg. Then on the 2nd leg, we took the world’s first revolving cable car, the Titlis Rotair. The Rotair makes one full revolution whilst we ascended to the top of Mt Titlis giving us a 360-degree view of the Uri Alps. The weather was absolutely beautiful. It was warm and I had to remove my top warm layer. Once we reached the top, we not only enjoyed the breath-taking panoramic views of the surrounding Swiss landscapes, we had the ample time to take pictures in traditional Swiss outfits and buy souvenirs. We spent the morning playing in the snow and visited the ice caves. It was the perfect ending to our Switzerland trip. Later we departed for Lucerne to view the Lion monument before catching the flight from Zurich to London.

Day 4 Lucerne (2)

The last stop the Lion Monument, or the Lion of Lucerne, a rock relief, designed by Bertel Thorvaldsen. It commemorates the Swiss Guards who were massacred in 1792 during the French Revolution when revolutionaries stormed the Tuileries Palace in Paris. The carving has often been heralded as “the most mournful and moving piece of stone in the world”.
Early afternoon from Lucerne Lion Monument we proceeded towards Zurich Airport for our return flight back to London. While we were approaching for boarding a member of our group spotted a very popular Bollywood actor, Aamir Khan in the airport. Needless to say we all surrounded him and Aamir Khan obliged us with a photo opportunity with him. What a wonderful way to end a wonderful Switzerland trip!
