Day 20 Morning

After all our sunny weather, we woke up to wind and snow – just like Antarctica should be! We spent the morning at Yankee Harbour, before we sat sail for Deception Island. It was our third day in Antarctica at Yankee Harbour, a rocky cove on Greenwich Island. Yankee Harbour provides plenty of space to move around on shore.

So, we were happy to get a chance to stretch our legs a bit. However, it was incredibly windy day. Landing site was enriched by a small group of juvenile Elephant seals, individual Weddell and Fur seals resting on the beach. Yankee Harbour is home to about 4,000 pairs of Gentoo penguins. There were even a few random Chinstraps and Adélie penguins. Brown skuas were circling above the colonies looking for unprotected chicks.
