Day 21 Morning

The expedition ship anchored in the morning in the waters of Wilhelmina Bay after cruising whole night from Deception Island in Antarctica. There will be no landing in the morning, only small boat cruising with explorer boats. The bay is surrounded by steep cliffs full of snow and glaciers. An almost perfect pyramid-shaped peak towers over the water. Wilhelmina Bay is a magnificent bay on Antarctic Island, where many different types of large and small icebergs float in the quiet sea, some of them dark blue, and some dark green, really magical. Here icebergs are the most popular attraction.

Wilhelmina Bay is sometimes called “Whale-Mania Bay,” as it is one of the best places in Antarctica to spot these large marine mammals. The waters of Wilhelmina Bay are filled with krill, the staple food of many whale species, and owes to the ample population of the animals there. We saw minke whales, a weddel seal and as a big surprise we found two (!) emperor penguins!
