Day 15 Afternoon

St. Andrews Bay, one of those great, amazing places on Earth; but as it is so often, the greatest places are not always the easiest ones to get to. The wide bay does not offer much shelter against the ever-present swell of the Southern Ocean, and heavy surf is accordingly quite normal on the wide beach. You can get there on a good day, otherwise it will not be possible to get ashore and unlucky us we

were not able to land. Attempts were made to get as close as possible with zodiacs but condition was not kind to us. Eventually attempts were abandoned with great disappointment. St. Andrews Bay is a vast king penguin rookery. King penguins are everywhere. the wildlife is stunning. The view is truly breath taking, as the colony is the largest of its kind in South Georgia, and this means quite something. St Andrews Bay has the largest king penguin colony in South Georgia numbering 150.000.
