Day 19 Morning

Early on the morning of day 19, our expedition ship arrived at the stunning Antarctic Sound, right on schedule. Antarctica is a land of superlatives. It is the coldest, windiest, driest, iciest, quietest and highest of all the major and masses of the world. While we were in Antarctic Sound, suddenly the quiet sound got interrupted by a sudden bang. Immediately I noticed a section of the glacier was falling onto the ocean making the very loud noise. As we navigated towards Kinnes Cove, the Captain of the ship and the expedition team had to make a decision: anchor and attempt a shore landing, or continue cruising. Unfortunately, the weather didn’t cooperate, wind & swell prevented from landing, so the Captain opted to keep sailing through the breath-taking landscape. The mountains were blanketed in snow and glaciers, while the water was dotted with icebergs of every shape, size, and colour. Despite some clouds, the sky was occasionally bright and sunny, adding to the mixed weather conditions we encountered.
