Chapter 7: Queenstown adventure capital city of the world

Day 8

After spending wonderful time in scenic Doubtful Sound, we proceeded towards our next destination Queenstown. On the way we stopped at Te Anau Bird Sanctuary. We saw one of the Fiordland’s special birds, Takahe that are difficult to see in the wild. Before we checked in the hotel, we had an orientation tour of the city. It didn’t take long to form an opinion that the city must be the adventure capital city of the world. The following day tour manager confirmed my observation and Queenstown is renowned for its adventure sports. The city sits on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, set against the dramatic Southern Alps. After unpacking and dinner I went for a walk along the lakeside walkway to the marina. The view is spectacular.

Chapter 8: visit to famous filming locations, oldest steamship in Southern Hemisphere and Country Farm

Day 9

A very busy day. After breakfast we boarded the coach for tour to some of the famous filming locations starting with ‘Lords of the Rings’ followed by Hobbit and another Bollywood movie ‘I Hate Luv Storys’. The scenery was just magic. In the evening, we journeyed across Lake Wakatipu on the TSS Earnslaw, the oldest twin screw steamer in the Southern Hemisphere. After a scenic cruising across the lake with the vintage coal-fired steamship we arrived at Walter Peak High Country Farm, a very beautiful location and lots of things to do. We were taken on an interactive tour including a working sheepdog demonstration and sheep shearing demonstration. We all had a delicious evening meal. All the ingredients were from the farm. An absolutely wonderful day.

Chapter 9: rest day

Day 10

It was a day to relax and save energy for the rest of the travelling. So, we spent our time exploring the city, surroundings etc with slow pace.
